This summer it was a lot of fun to host undergraduates Jinhui, Amy, Kevin, Grace and Alva in the lab for their internships. They are in different academic years (Y1 to Y4) but worked as a team supporting each other to implement beta-binomial regression models from scratch in Python and apply them to different contexts.
Following the pre-training, Grace and Kevin will further conduct their Final Year Projects in the lab. Now, both of them are playing with neural network models to capture patterns in single-cell genomics and transcriptomics.
As the new semester starts, we are also very pleased to see Fangxin formally starts her PhD in our lab with generous support from HKPF. She is exploring gene regulations in the cell differentiation processes, from a computational perspective and in conjunction with advances in single-cell multi-omics technology.
